Formula 2 and 3 bangers rules

FORMULA – FORMULA.2 & 3 BANGER RULES:

Formula.2 Group Number Allocation: 500 - 599
Formula.3 Group Number Allocation: 100 - 199

Driver age group: 16 years of age & over

Formula.2: Engine Capacity: up to 1600 cc
(Original engines only)

Formula.3: Engine Capacity: 1601 to 4200 cc
(Original engines only, except Jaguar & big Volvo’s to use FORD 2.8 engine – NO other engine swoops allowed)

ALL other cars to use original manufactures engine, as built for road use.

No 4-wheel drive or Pick-ups allowed at normal race meetings.

This is a full contact Formula, racing in a clockwise direction;

There is NO going the wrong way on straights, hitting driver’s doors, hitting parked, dead or overturned cars, pushing cars into fencing or the centre green. Cars are ONLY allowed on the centre green if driver exits again within 10 seconds or is retiring from the race. There is NO attacking from the centre green.

There IS waiting on the outside of bends ONLY, following in & Head-On’s.

All cars to be used for Racing MUST be of METAL construction.

ALL plastic (including bumpers), glass, trim, carpets, passenger seats & the steering lock MUST be removed.

We suggest, STRONGLY ADVISE for dashboards to be removed.

The Drivers seat must be secure & strapped to the main pillar or cage, & MUST have a head rest.

A stadium Type: 2 post roll cage or 4 post roll cage MUST be used (see diagrams) & be securely bolted to floor & roof by suitable plates & bolts.

A sealed metal fuel tank not exceeding 10ltrs MUST be fixed securely inside the car, not within the engine or boot areas. The tank MUST have an overflow & a return pipe if the car is fuel-injected. All fuel pipe connections MUST be secured by jubilee type clips.

The original fuel tank is to be removed or be visibly punctured.

ALL water systems are to be under the bonnet. A water tank not exceeding 5 gallons may be used but MUST NOT protrude past the engine. All water pipe connections MUST be secured by jubilee type clips.

The battery MUST be securely clamped into place inside the car, not within the engine or boot areas, & covered by leak-proof material.

An Isolator/cut-out switch MUST be fitted at head height behind the driver on roll cage, clearly visible & accessible to Marshalls. ALL the electrical system MUST be through this switch.

ALL doors, boot lids & tail gates MUST be strapped, bolted or welded securely shut. Welding is restricted to doors & boots (2” weld with 6” gap). Glass sun-roof’s are to be removed & replaced or covered by a metal sheet bolted or welded into place.

The Bonnet is to be secured by a MAXIMUM of 4 bolts.

NO OTHER WELDING OTHER THAN MENTIONED ABOVE IS PERMITTED.

A metal bar/plate of NOT less than 9” wide x ¼” thick MUST be positioned across the outside of the driver’s door. It MUST extend at least 3” pass the centre pillar & 3” on to the front wing. It MUST be bolted through the door pillars & to door skin by minimum of 5x 13mm bolts with no excess thread beyond the nuts.

Wheels & tyres MUST be as per fitted by the manufacture.

Any tow-bars MUST be removed.

A metal Fin-plate (18” length x 9” height) MUST be bolted to the roof, finished in white background with black numbers.

Brakes MUST lock minimum of 3 of the wheels.

All limbs of drivers are to be covered by appropriate overalls of NON-NYLON material while racing.

Crash Helmets MUST be BSI Approved & have the appropriate ‘Kite’ marking. A Crash Helmet & appropriate eye protection MUST be worn while racing.

A BSI Approved Safety Harness with minimum of 3 fixing points MUST be fitted & used as per manufactures instructions.

Breaking ANY of the Rules in this Formula will result in race &/or meeting bans. Please respect the safety of others competitors & marshals at all times.
